Lost Against Rotorua

Came 12th out of 13 teams

Last night the team raced at Gizzy for the NZ Stockcars teams champs. It was some hard fast racing.
1st race was against Whanganui which was never going to be easy. We drove well with Aydan winning for a while until he got put in the wall and then a few other cars got hit on the grass and were to damaged to continue. We got 3rd & 4th which was a 45 points.
2nd race was against Rotorua. Ben wasnt aloud out the gate because he was a minute to late so it was our 4 against 5. Off the start Carl pushed 1 of the opposing cars to the infield and was gone. Leading most of the race driving like a machine. The other guys all worked well, 2 cars got damaged and then Carl got put in the wall and we finished 4th and 5th.
We ended 11th overall having cars finish both races and the boys all drove well and did their part as a team on and off the track.
Onward and upwards from here

Friday night was a big night with the 1st race against Auckland and was alway going to be tough. Clinton got welcomed in to his 1st Ever teams race with a massive wall ride. Bryce got a big hit tearing off his bumper, Gary had mechanical issues and Ayden was put in to the wall which halted his progress for a while leaving Auckland to win it and a lot of damage. The boys all dug in and got all the cars repaired bar 1. Next was Stratford Aydan took the lead for 4 laps or so with gary and nigel on block control. Aydan got held up for long enough for Stratford to take the win. This was a great race which showed passion by the boys and awesome team work.

What a weekend....After entering the NZ Stockcar Teams in which we all know was going to be very hard work against 10 other teams to make the top 8 and qualify for the 2nd night.
Our 1st race on Friday was against Gisborne Gladiators and the supersubs of the Rees.
A great start by us with Gary Rolling Peter Rees on the 1st lap eliminating him, Ben and Cheets got slowed and Gizzy ran 1,2. With about 3 laps to go Aydan and Gary Slowed Ethan Rees in 2nd moving Ben up to 2nd Chasing down the leader but we ran out of laps and the Gladiatiors got the win but we got a good points haul with 2nd 3rd and 5th.
2nd Race we had Meanee Maulers. They lead most the race with Ben and Clinton Running 2nd and 3rd, Nigel had a massive wall ride courtesy of one of the Maulers which left him a road block on the main straight. Keegan drove Aydans car and got put up the wall in turn 1 which left the leader wide open for Ben to put up the wall Putting Cheets in the lead and able to take the win (the first win for the crusaders in 7 years)
We sat in 6th place on points meaning we had qualified for the finals on the 2nd night and the 1st time in Crusader history we have qualified for the NZ teams..
Our Finals race on Saturday was against the Maulers again.
The Maulers got away to a good start and lead the whole race,Keegan broke a drivshaft on the line leaving us with 3. Cheets put there main blocker Loveridge parked on the wall and Ben was chasing the leader but wasn't quite close enough to take a swing at the leader. The Maulers won and went on to finish 3rd overall. We got good finishers in 2nd 3rd and 5th to race for 5th and 6th Place against Palmerston North Pumas
The Pumas got a good start this race and there blockers were on form hitting and spining Gary every time they got a chance making it hard on our Runners making our leader Ben go a lap down. Cheets Got the Leader Tanawhia and held him up for a bit For Ben to Get a lap back but it wasnt enough with the Pumas taking the Win meaning that we ended up 6th overall.
Me and Carl are so proud of the Boys for all there Efforts. They drove so well as a team and can keep there heads up high.
The crews, familys and friends of the drivers are awesome and i cant thank them enough for everything the do.
Onwards and upwards form here and this young team can just keep growing.

SMACK TORQUE WRITE UP

Here is a Write up from Smack Torque.. Thanks Guys
Just back tracking abit here, but sometimes in sports the great stories are the ones less talked about or acknowledged.
Kihikihi has been entertaining us for many years as the little club that could. In 1996 after the Baypark track closed down, they gave the Busters one last teams champs appearance at the time under the KM banner, and since then through the Kings Superstock team or the Crusaders stockcar team provided us many highlights. The little club that rallies together to make teams champs and usually with a helping hand from a Peter Barry, a Bruce Harding or some other driver wanting to teams race.
In 2017/18 they carved their own piece of history and qualified for the first time in a Teams Championship. A massive reward for all the past drivers, crews and fans aswell as the 6 drivers that fronted that weekend. It probably doesn't seem like much but to small clubs who keep the sport alive results like this go a long way!

CRUSADERS VS ROTORUA

January 2018

Drivers Were: Nigel Hazelton, Clinton Cheetham, Kacey Cheetham, Jason Heard, Ben Ellis

Lost Against Rotorua

We were asked last weekend if we could commit a team to race on the finals night of the world 240s after Huntly withdrew. Since we owed Rotorua a race as they had come over earlier in the season we leaped at the chance to give a couple of the new boys some experience before we head off to Stratford next weekend.
The race started well and although we never grabbed the lead early on, Kacey and Jason charged hard all race gaining laps back.
Nigel, Ben and Clinton done an extremely great job of running block and cover for our two run cars which were hardly touched Thru the race.
Although we didn’t win the boys were over the moon putting away 4 out of the 5 rascals cars which is no easy feat as they have plenty of depth and experience through out there drivers crew and management.
To come out of a teams race with only one broken rod end out of all 5 cars is a real credit to the drivers. Thinking about what they are doing and not sacrificing themselves to be a hero! Most teams events are points on the first night so we would have been fresh for the next heat if needed.

After the Friday night getting rained off the team went to the pub for a team meeting and discuss the challenges that rose ahead, it was decided by the club and the team managers to run both nights in 1 day which we all knew was going to be very hard on bodies and gear.

The 1st race of the day was against Auckland, it was a close fought race with Ben and Josh leading for a few laps each before Ben got slowed by blockers and Josh got put up the wall, this Gave Auckland the lead and eventually the win

The 2nd race we were up against Hawkes Bay, we were missing Bruce due to damage from the previous race. Carl jumped into block mode and managed to hold up the opposition  leader long enough for ben to take the lead and eventually take the win.

This meant we were through to the top 8 7th equal with Palmerston North

There was a 4 hour break before cars were scrutineered again ready for part 2 of the night but we had a lot of damage and some sore bodies.

Our 1st Finals race was against defending champions Stratford, Ben hit the lead for a bit but with Josh getting put up the wall and Carl having a breakdown we were just to outnumbered and the block cars held up Ben and Aydan long enough for Stratford to take the lead and the win

This left us racing for 7th and 8th against Greymouth. Bruce got his car going and made it out on to the track to perform some great blocking and helping Ben and Aydan run. Aydan drove the race of his lifetime to win the race and earn the team 7th overall.

Last night the team fronted for the Metallic Recycling Rosetown Stockcar Teams Classic.

The first race was against Auckland as usual and it didn't go to plan. Bruce had electrical issues and Carl a flat front all in lap 1 which left Auckland in control to win.
This left us with a small points haul having to race the Select team for 5th & 6th.
The plan was to win this race 1.2.3.4 with minimal damage and the boys did what was asked of them.
This coming weekend the team are travelling to Hawkes Bay for the Peter Barry Teams.

The Mcpherson contractors Kihikihi Crusaders travelled to the sunny Hawkes Bay to battle for the Peter Barry Memorial over the weekend.
I managed to draw the Waikato Raiders and Orange Roughies for qualifying night.
The first race started well for us with Waikato only having 3 cars. From the green light we took the lead and slow the Waikato team down to convincingly win and score good points.
The second race we took the lead early and were in full control with Aydans impressive blocking and Ben winning again making a big points haul.
This left us top points qualifiers for the night and the first time ever the Kihikihi Crusaders have qualified for the Peter Barry teams meeting.
Finals night was always going to be a big ask with our 1st semi against Auckland. With losing a driver to injury, losing a car in the 1st lap and then Bryce getting massive suspension damage the task got even harder and Auckland ran away with the victory.
This left us to race for 3rd and 4th vs Palmerston North pumas who are NZ2 this year.
Palmy got a good start and led for a few laps before we took over the lead. The palmy cars managed to slow our leader and take the lead back to eventually win the race.
4th overall out of 8 teams is still a huge achievement and I am proud of how the boys raced. Onwards and upwards
Thanks to the sponsors for there ongoing support for the season we hugely appreciate everything you do
